MALLORY GREENE NAMED FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Mallory played three sports during her Western Albemarle career: Field Hockey, Indoor Track and Lacrosse. In Lacrosse, Mallory was selected to the All-Central Virginia team as a junior and as a senior was selected All-Jefferson District, All-Region 4A and First-Team Class 4 All-State. She was also named Region 4A Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year. In Field Hockey Mallory received All-Jefferson District recognition as a junior and senior and was named second team All-Region her senior year. She captained both Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams her senior year. In addition, Mallory competed in long jump, triple jump and sprint relays in Indoor Track. Mallory was recognized by the VHSL as the 2021-22 VHSL Class 4 Female Athlete of the Year.
JOEY BURCH NAMED MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Joey Burch participated in four sports during his Wester Albemarle career: Football, Wrestling, Baseball and Outdoor Track. He was team captain for both the Football and Wrestling teams. In Wrestling, Joey finished his senior year with a record of 34-2. He was Regional Champion in the 170-pound weight class and finished 2nd at the VHSL Class 4A State Tournament. The Daily Progress name him 2021-22 Wrestler of the Year for Central Virginia. In Football, Joey was All-Jefferson District at Wide Receiver and Defensive Back his junior and senior years. He was named All-Region Defensive Back his senior year. During his career at WAHS Joey also pitched for the baseball team and sprinted for the outdoor track team.
